Here are my favourite drinks of the year 2024, bearing in mind I only started reviewing them in October, these all scored the maximum 5/5 and should be on your list of drinks to try ( in my opinion) .
In no particular order :
DEYA | We Can Be Friends collab Albino Pasta 0.5% IPA 5/5 Good pour with a cracking head that refuses to leave the glass - like a child that doesn't want to go bed " I'm not going" you get the jist. Lots of fizz that helps the aroma float up and out. The aroma is very fresh, crisp citrussy with lemons and melon of all things, its a lovely enticing smell. It's floral without it being like a bouquet from intaflora thrust into your face buy a sweaty delivery person. First taste, lots of body (no wateriness found here) with plenty of bubbles. It packs juicyness that makes your mouth water like opel fruits (yeh I said it).It manages to have sweetness with an enjoyable bitter tang - just WOW !!. The aftertaste is a beautiful mild fruity flavour with a subtle hoppy finish, it's borderline creamy it's blended so well. It's lovely. | ![]() |
Wiper and True | Tomorrow 0.5% 5/5 Nice pour and lovely frothy head, healthy amount of bubbles and fizz. It's a rich amber colour and looks cracking. The aroma is crisp malty and clean, no funny smells of things you can't put your finger on. The first taste is stunning, really crisp and fresh lager/beer taste with strength, but well balanced hops and maltyness. It has depth and character this one. I love this. it has great body and the aftertaste is mild and malty with a kind of digestive biscuit finish that lingers like the cigarette smoke in a french film noir scene. what a beer ! ice cold refreshing and layered with flavour. | ![]() |
MashGang | Chug 0.5% Hazy Pale Ale 5/5 Great pour, you can sense the body and smell the juice. A nice custard cloudy colour ,nice head that hangs around. The aroma is zesty and fresh but again not overtly "intaflora" which makes me happy. First taste is zingy and alive with juicyness, there is definitely a subtle sour pineapple and melon in there, wow. There is a lovely mild ale undercurrent that binds this together like egg and flour and finishes with sticky dates. I did find a hint of bitterness but it cuts through the juice and leaves you wanting more. Have I mentioned juice? I found this very juicy, in fact i'm thinking about it now and my mouth is watering. It has plenty of body and feels like a quality drink on your palette. | ![]() |
Captain Morgan Spiced Gold Rum 0.0% 5/5 The crack of the lid in your hand is familiar, the glass prepped with lemon and ice indicates your ready. As you pour the golden nectar over the ice, it all looks good so far. The ice cracks as normal. At this point I had a big sniff and was surprised how good it smelt, the sweet and spicy caramelly scent is there. Then out comes cold cola and cover the golden juice. First taste, bloody hell ! I rechecked the bottle as I couldn't believe it's alcohol free. It's good, it has all the caramel, vanilla syrupy goodness of the original and that cinnamon warming spice we are used to. I know Captain Morgan isn't the best spiced rum out there but it's a great all rounder and this alcohol free version is fantastic. it captures all the flavours you are used to and has the aftertaste and mouthfeel to match. | ![]() |
